I just wanted to update you with some things that have been going on with Ryan. He is currently in the ICU at Spectrum Downtown. He was taken there by ambulance around 3:30 this morning. His oxygen level was down to 86% when the EMT's got here last night. He is on 15 liters of oxygen and was holding steady at 98%. (He has been vomiting as well, but this is probably the stomach bug that I have had since last night.)
Dr. Fitch called me around 10:45 to tell me that Ryan was not doing well. His oxygen level had dropped to 91% on the 15 liters of oxygen. They did a blood gas on him and his carbon dioxide level was elevated to 79 (it should be between 30 &40 for a "normal" person, and in the 50's for Ryan). They have placed him on a BIPAP. It is a non-invasive ventilator that will help do some of the breathing for Ryan and hopefully improve how he is doing. They were hoping to do a boroncoiscope (sp) but at this point he is too sick. Dr. Fitch is trying to get in contact with Dr. Ojo to see what she would like the plan to be. He did tell me that an actual ventilator or even a flight to U of M might need to happen.
