Continuing Progress

Ryan continues to make great progress each day. He was able to do trach mask for 4 hours today while sitting in the chair. He was actually in the chair for about 8 hours. He is much more comfortable there -- his back tends to ache while sitting in the bed. He also pedaled his "bike" two different times today: once for 5 minutes and another time for 10 minutes.

The trach mask, sitting in the chair, and bike pedaling all builds up Ryan's endurance. Dr. Hyzy had the RT get a portable vent for Ryan today. This will allow him to start working on his walking and attaining the goal of 450 feet in 6 minutes. I am hoping it will also allow us to venture outside to the courtyard on a little wheelchair road trip too!

Ryan is quite strong and walks from the chair to the bed with very little support! Many nurses, techs, PT and doctors have been impressed with his strength. It is so great to see that God has sustained Ryan's strength through this whole ordeal ("they" said that he would not). I was even able to have a standing up hug today!

Please pray for:
  • Ryan's continued strength and endurance
  • Ryan to remain free of secondary infections
  • Ryan and I to be able to take a road trip outside
  • Mental strength and endurance for both of us (some days are really difficult especially when we don't have an ending "date")
  • Ryan's anxiety levels to remain low (he has done great the last several days, although he still likes me to be there early)
