Today has been another day of ups and downs. Ryan is now requiring 100% oxygen almost any time he exerts extra energy. If they are able to give him the 100% before he begins different tasks, he is able to recover somewhat quickly; if they wait until after the task is completed, he really struggles to recover. His lungs are just really tired and really sick and just seem to be giving out. We need new lungs!
I also wanted to give an explanation about the ability to get lungs from other states. Ryan is #1 in the entire Midwest for his blood type and body size. In order for him to receive lungs from another state, the person that is #1 in that state would have to turn the lungs down (that person would most likely be too sick or on hold to receive lungs at that time). If the #1 person in that state would turn them down, they would automatically be offered to Ryan. Sometimes lungs are turned down because they are not "healthy" enough, in that case we would not want them either.
Our time with Lily and Wyatt (and my parents) was great! The kids are the best medicine for both Ryan and I right now. I let the kids come up to his ICU room again. They played on his lap and in his bed for almost an hour! We can't wait until we are home to be with them full time.
